Lubanga Trial: Week 11 in Review: POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER IN CHILDREN
The trial resumed on Tuesday, April 7 with the testimony of psychologist Elisabeth Schauer who explained that many former child soldiers experience post traumatic stress disorder. She also explained to the Court why it is difficult for former child soldiers to testify against former commanders: “It will be difficult to sit, face-to-face, with the person who used to make decisions over your life and death,” she said.
On Wednesday, defense lawyer Catherine Mabille asked for more time with Lubanga, stating that she and the other defense lawyers do not have enough access to him. In addition, prosecutor Manoj Sachdeva told the judges that Witness 4 will most likely not return to Court to testify for security reasons.
The case is on recess until May 5, 2009.
